College is definitely nothing like high school and the week tends to go by much faster. Going to a college away from home has made me become more independent and responsible. Living in a dorm, there's not always food sitting in the refrigerator, and I have to do many things for myself. IUPUI has also allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and become more involved. In doing that, I have had the opportunity to meet so many great people around campus.

Lastly, IUPUI has challenged me to go above and beyond to reach my goals. I made it this far to see my first year of college and that means I am a step closer to accomplishing my dreams of becoming a pediatrician.

My mom always told me education was the key to success and that I must put my education first. I have two mentors who help guide me throughout the semester to make sure I am staying on track. When I need help with a course or just simply need advice, they're always in my corner. They never hesitate to offer words of encouragement even if everything is going well because they have once been in my shoes. It's a blessing to know that even though my family may not physically be here with me, I have another family away from home that's cheering me on and wants to see me succeed.
